Memories and mammograms

Voice of Miracles

As I look through my memories from this day in years past, I’m struck by just how different my life looks now.

This Sunday morning, I woke up with two baby girl guinea pigs sleeping soundly in my room, Finnian curled up on his cat tree, and Pippin lying beside me. There are two boy guinea pigs in my daughter’s room—and even writing the words my daughter’s room still stops me sometimes. Last night, she had her two friends, who are twins, spend the night, and listening to those girls laugh and have such a wonderful time filled my heart.

This morning I’m making crescent rolls wrapped around cheese and little beef Smokies, putting together my daughter’s vitamin cup, preparing the guinea pigs’ morning vegetable buffet, and getting everyone ready for church. Later, I’ll take the girls roller skating, my daughter has ice-skating lessons, and then we’ll get ourselves ready for another week.

My life bears almost no resemblance to the life I once knew. It’s busier, louder, fuller—and I wouldn’t trade this season for anything.

There is one heavier thing on my heart. Wednesday afternoon I go in for additional six-month follow-up testing on my right breast to make sure there is still no evidence of breast cancer. I have faith that everything will work out as it should, but I would certainly appreciate your prayers.

As always, I’m praying for all of you, too. Here’s to another Sunday, another week, and being grateful for the life God has placed in front of me.
