Promise

Church on The Move taught me and my Wednesday Bible Study group about the 6th Day project.  The idea is to pray to God and ask for him to show you what talent or skill you have that can be a blessing to others and yourself financially or otherwise.  For example one member of our church built a storm shelter for his daughter, and she said "Dad, you should do this professionally", and now he has a successful and thriving storm shelter business.  Six days later I woke up with an epiphany, cooking.  I love to cook, to prepare, to shop, to plan the meal, to serve.  I like talking about food, and God knows I love to eat!  I laughed as I got ready for work that 6th day morning when I walked past the still brand new professional chef's apron my friends had embroidered for me last year that says 'Chef Samara"; my gift, my talent, my hobby; that is my 6th day blessing.  It was right there in front of me the whole time.  I don't know why I didn't see it before.  One thing led to the other and by the next night exactly seven days after we all prayed, I was enrolled in Platt College's Culinary Art Associates of Science degree 2 year program.

I can't remember the last time I was so excited about something.  I start 7/7 and that is a good day for me, Christopher will be 21!  When you enroll in culinary school you get to pick out your shoes, and pants, and coat, and hat that you wear in class every day, and you also get a set of chef knives that will last your entire career as well as an iPad loaded with your school books.  Super excited to use REAL knives!

My schedule will be crazy; 5:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Planet Fitness then 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 pm at NSI and 6-10 pm Mon-Fri for school.  Every student must complete an internship at the on site Working Restaurant and also an externship in a local restaurant; and I am looking forward to learning table side cooking, which is like Banana's Foster (flaming dessert).  I am going to buy Rosetta Stone French for school since most culinary phrases are in French, go figure!  Just what I need, one more excuse to read!

I may never do anything with my degree but to walk across that stage and get my diploma and have my friends and family there cheering for me, yeah, that'll make it all worth it.  I think it would make my parents proud.  Who knows, I could have my own food truck some day!  Just to be able to say I am a college graduate will make me feel incredible.

So my 40th is steadily approaching, and I am looking forward to dinner at my favorite McNellie's on the 30th with my pals and then games at Dave and Buster's, yes I am VERY in touch with my inner child, deal with it.

Just when I think my life couldn't get any better, it does.
